Both DSC and DIN are a necessity for every director, including foreigner directors. They are:

DSC: A digital signature is a must for filing all MCA documents online. This can be obtained by foreign nationals through a Passport & Video Verification process.
DIN: A unique identification number to be obtained from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for every Director of an Indian Company. This can be obtained by foreign nationals through a SPICE+ form for company registration.

Tip: Both DSC and DIN can be obtained remotely, without the directors' need to physically visit India.
